Motorcycle Fuel additives, what do they actually do?

Putting a fuel additive into your petrol may seem like a small job and almost too easy to make any difference, but it can really work wonders. Fuel additives are a good idea at any time of year, but are particularly good if you are planning to store your motorcycle in the garage over winter with any petrol left in the tank and will keep it fresh, ready for your engine to fire on all cylinders when it's needed. A good fuel additive in your petrol can stabilise fuel for up to two years and ensure that it doesn't go off in the tank and clog up your carbs and injectors when you set happily off again in the spring.

Enzyme additives like Star Tron for example will also cure most ethanol problems and make your engine start easily and run smoothly. It is designed to keep your fuel delivery system clean and the petrol nice and fresh so that the fuel burns more completely, thus increasing engine performance and reducing smoke and other emissions. It not only prevents the build up of carbon, varnish and gum but it actually cleans it away if it is already there. You don't need to use much either 1000ml of Star Tron treats 720 litres of petrol, so it is great value and its blend of enzymes means that it is impossible to overdose your fuel.

So investing in one of the fuel additives on the market is a good problem solver and also prevents a lot of potential issues from claggy petrol, which might affect the day to day running of your engine. Check out which one is the most suitable for your motorcycle as some are better for modern bikes and some for Classic machines.
