Rare motorcycle sells for £200,000

Croft-Cameron Super Eight - super stylish, super expensive

Image
This beautiful motorcycle was the star of the Bonhams Stafford Sale on Sunday, selling at auction for a whopping £203,100.

The 1924 model was manufactured by Croft-Cameron. Who? you ask. A little-known motorcycle company which was in business between 1923 to 1926. Based in Coventry, the company manufactured only one model, with a few detail variations. Back then, their powerful machines were targeted at the top end of the market. Few of them exist today, which goes towards explaining the price at the auction.

'At last you have the Ideal of your dreams. The Croft Anzani Super Eight'

Launched in March 1923, the above slogan was used to advertise the motorcycle.  A vintage-era superbike, it's fitted with a British Anzani 996cc V-twin ohv engine. The gearbox, a three-speed Sturmey Archer unit kick-starter. The leaf-sprung front forks were by Montgomery.

This one has lived in the same family for almost 70 years. Restored in 1962, it's in good working condition, and we're sure will be loved by its new owner.
