Interesting Visitors: Steel Butts Tour

Alien Riders made their way to Wemoto last week

Wemoto was recently paid a visit by the Alien Riders motorcycle club. They were on their penultimate leg of their round-the-UK charity tour.

I spoke with Phil ‘The Ferret’ Joseph about what they had named the Steel Butts Tour. He said:

The idea came about of doing something big one last time before we get too old to endure anything more than a trip down the road to our local takeaway shop. But, with that said, this is not going to be an easy ride. Nope, not at all. We're looking at doing somewhere between 2500 and 3000 miles in 14 days. Come rain or shine.

In the group doing the Tour, we have a range of ages from 20s to 60s. While the younger generation will most likely take the 3000 miles with a smile, the older generation will be swearing like troopers by day 3.

We're camping every night (yup, that right, no hotels, motels or holiday inns). So pitch up a tent or sleep rough, your choice. These 3000 miles will take their toll of everyone taking part. Now, to make it even harder we decided that we will take with us learners on 125cc motorcycles. And that means we can't use motorways. All A roads for us. And that also means we will be travelling at a maximum of 50mph when speed limits allow.

We’ve decided that, while being crazy, we shall raise money for charities. We've picked 4:

It was great to see these guys. They told us they'd had a wonderful experience so far.
