Blind Veterans UK's first motorcycle ride event-Ride for Life Beyond Sight

Llandudno to Brighton - July 26th

Billy Baxter is a blind army veteran who doesn't let blindness deter him from motorcycling at speed and has set the record for the fastest blind motorcyclist at 164.87mph!

Billy contracted a rare virus in 1997 which led to loss of his optic nerves and blindness. However he took up the challenge of getting back on his motorcycle and, with riders who ride with him communicating through radios, he has become the first blind stunt rider and has set the first blind land sped record of 164.87.

The Road Ahead

Now Billy is publicising a motorcycle ride called: Ride for Life Beyond Sight Loss, which is a rally running from Llandudno in Wales to St Dunstan's in Brighton to raise money for blind veterans.

This rally is the first motorcycle ride event in support of the charity - Blind Veterans UK.  The ride travels from Llandudno to Brighton with pre arranged fuel stops along the route for a chance for participants to refuel themselves and their bikes.  For those who live along the route it is possible to join the ride at three other designated points on the way:

* Café Express, Crossgates, Llandrindod Wells
* Sainsburys Service & Truck Stop, Swindon
* Petersfield Services.

It will cost £15 per rider and £15 for pillions to participate in the rally, which entitles entrants to a commemorative ceramic badge and year badge.

There's still plenty of time to sign up as the ride starts on July 26th.  On the day riders should arrive at the Llandudno Blind Veterans UK Centre between 7:00 - 8:00am ready to be organised into groups for the ride to Brighton.

Breakfast and hot drinks will be available to buy at the Blind Veterans UK centre in Llandudno to set you up for the ride.

At the end of the ride, riders should start arriving in Brighton from 16:00 where they will be treated to a well earned hog roast roll (veg option available). There will also be a bar, some live music and trade stands to browse.

A limited number of camping pitches will be available in Brighton on Saturday 26 July.

 For those who are not able to take part in the ride but would still like to support the venture you can volunteer at the finish at St Dunstans in Ovindgdean (Brighton).
